He is mostly a happy dog. He loves to go for walks and spend time just hanging out outdoors. He adores treats and will do tricks for them. He has been trained and will obey a lot of commands without hesitation. He learns new things very quickly. But he does have a few behaviors that might be called aloof. He doesn't care for toys in the least and if you toss a stick, he will give you a look that could only mean "you've got to be kidding." He gets along with most dogs and he ignores aggressive dogs unless they get right in his face. He never barks back, but bares his teeth and snarls, if pushed. But he backs away on command. He is generally very gentle (sweet around children) and easy-going (ignores cats), but he is a good watch dog. He learns the usual events (paperboy, mail carrier, joggers), but he reacts to odd events. He seems proud of his guarding skills. When I respond and call him off, he looks for praise. He has never had to protect me, but he's got that chow warrior thing. I wouldn't want to be on the opposition. He always sleeps by the door at night, but comes to jump into my bed at dawn.
Sorry to go on about him. I guess that you can tell that Giacomo means a lot to me.
Yeah, I used to have a Yorkshire terrier. Ten inches tall with a ten foot ego. Wildly aggressive with almost nothing to back it up but pure terrier spirit. Go rat dog! Go!
